The President of Armenia strengthens ties with Hungary

The visit of the President of the Republic of Armenia, Vahagn Khachaturyan, to Hungary marks another positive milestone in the efforts to enhance the renewed interstate relations between Armenia and Hungary. Throughout the three-day visit, numerous meetings were held, resulting in the achievement of significant agreements.

A memorandum of understanding was signed between Armenia and Hungary, focusing on cooperation in culture, higher education, and various other fields. Hungary has committed to providing scholarships to 200 Armenian students, enabling them to commence their studies in Hungarian universities. Additionally, approximately 1000 Karabakh children, who have been affected by Azerbaijani aggression, will have the opportunity to spend their holidays in Hungary. The Department of Hungarian history and culture is set to commence operations at the Armenian State Pedagogical University.

Discussions were held on the economic relations between the two countries, with the potential to elevate them to a new level. Simultaneously, there is a prospect of initiating the long-awaited Budapest-Armenia direct air transportation.

President Vahagn Khachaturyan addressed issues concerning the expanding partnership between Armenia and the EU during talks with the President of Hungary. The discussion also touched upon Hungary’s successive presidency in the EU, during which serious attention can be directed towards safeguarding and preserving the Armenian Christian cultural heritage in Nagorno Karabakh, which is currently occupied by Azerbaijan.
