Vardavar Festival in the Courtyard of the Armenian Catholic Church in Budapest

Like Armenians living in all parts of the world, Armenians in Budapest also celebrated Vardavar, the Armenian traditional pre-Christian and Christian festival.

Vardavar, or the Transfiguration of Christ, is one of the five major feasts of the Armenian Apostolic Church.

Vardavar is one of the most beloved among traditional Armenian festivals and is the most popular summer holiday. In cities, Vardavar is often considered a children’s holiday; kids refer to it as “playing water games” or “playing Vardavar,” meaning joyfully splashing water on strangers and passersby.
