Visit to the Republic of Armenia
From November 27 to December 2, the visit to the Republic of Armenia was organized by the representative of the Armenian community in the Hungarian Parliament, MP Nikoghos Hakobyan, the RA Ambassador to Hungary, Ashot Smbatyan, and the head of the Office of Armenian National Autonomy in Hungary, Laszlo Ronaseik.
The visit had several important goals. One of the priorities was to transfer the monetary humanitarian aid collected by Hungarian Armenians in 2023 to the people of Artsakh who suffered and were deprived of their homeland due to the aggressive policy of Azerbaijan. The monetary support amounted to 20,000 US dollars and was given to approximately 35 socially disadvantaged families from Artsakh, including 175 children.
The delegation also visited the city of Spitak, where they met with Mayor Kajayr Nikoghosyan. Discussions centered around the repair works of the 258-prisoner-of-war cemetery in the territory of Spitak city, the graves of 51 Hungarian prisoners of war who worked and died in Soviet Armenia, during the Second World War.
During the visit, separate meetings were held with RA Minister of Territorial Administration and Infrastructures Gnel Sanosyan and the Head of the Armenian-Hungary Friendship Group of the National Assembly, a member of the “Civil Contract” faction of the National Assembly, Hripsime Grigoryan. Discussions with Gnel Sanosyan focused on the potential activation of Armenian-Hungarian trade and economic relations. Nikoghos Hakobyan also emphasized the need to resume the suspended activity of the Hungarian Chamber of Commerce in Armenia, enabling the export of various products from Armenia to Hungary. Other issues of mutual interest were also discussed.
Hripsime Grigoryan, the head of the NA Armenia-Hungary friendship group, spoke about the great potential for developing relations between the two countries in the political, economic, cultural, humanitarian, and educational spheres. Mikael Tumasyan, a member of the RA NA Armenia-Hungary friendship group and deputy of the “Civil Contract” faction, highlighted the restoration of Armenian-Hungarian diplomatic relations, emphasizing the significant prospect of expanding cooperation between friendly groups. Gayane Yeghiazaryan, a member of the friendship group and a member of the NA “Civil Contract” parliamentarian, emphasized the expansion and deepening of parliamentary bilateral ties.
Anahit Simonyan, the president of the “Armenia-Hungary” company, who initiated the meeting, noted that during the years when diplomatic relations between the two countries were suspended, he carried out his mission through democratic diplomacy.
