Levon Aronian Wins Las Vegas Freestyle Chess Grand Slam Title
Famed Armenian grandmaster Levon Aronian, representing the United States, achieved a brilliant victory at the Freestyle Chess Grand Slam tournament in Las Vegas, defeating Hans Niemann in the final. Aronian won the Freestyle Chess Grand Slam title and a $200,000 prize with a 1.5–0.5 score.
The first game of the final ended in a draw, but Aronian claimed a decisive victory in the second game, cementing his position as one of the world’s leading chess players.
The tournament took place from July 16 to 20, featuring the top 16 chess players in the world. Along the way, Aronian defeated Magnus Carlsen, Hikaru Nakamura, and Arjun Erigaisi in various rounds.
